Smart City Networks Month in Review: February 2023

One of the best parts of working in the hospitality and events industry is seeing such a wide variety of events through our centers across the nation. From comic cons to medical conferences to sporting events, there’s always something exciting happening. Speaking of sports, February’s Super Bowl was one for the record books! The Chiefs took down the Eagles in a nail-biter of a game (well, at least up to the last few minutes…), and we all found out Rihanna was not only pregnant again but also not afraid of heights! It was a fantastic event that Smart City Networks is honored to have been a part of, and for this month’s review, I thought it would be fitting to highlight some of the best sports-related events we helped service this month.

Obviously, we need to start with the Super Bowl. Smart City has been providing services to the Big Game for years, and the 2023 event marked the 13th game our company has been a part of. Although Smart City employees didn’t dress up and join the Eagle’s defensive line, we still provided an essential service to the event. The NFL Experience is a massive fan event that takes place near the stadium at the Phoenix Convention Center, as well as where all the media affiliates broadcast from. Preparing for the biggest sporting event of the year was not an easy undertaking. It took months of prep and our local Smart City team’s constant dedication to ensure everything was ready on time.

This Super Bowl was unique as it allowed Smart City to install a temporary Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the Phoenix Convention Center. The DAS was meant to increase the coverage and reliability for attendees and exhibitors to deliver the best experience possible. Not only was the DAS a major success for the Super Bowl, but it will also benefit all other large events at the Phoenix Convention Center in the future.

But football isn’t the only sport out there! Other great sporting events and shows made a big impact this February. I first wanted to mention the 2023 Choice Bank Minnesota Golf Show. It is the largest golf show in the Midwest, where specialty golf vendors from around the United States can gather to mix and mingle with other golf enthusiasts. It’s at these shows that the latest and greatest gear, equipment, and gadgets are all showcased and displayed. For an event like this, it was essential to avoid getting stuck in the sand, and Smart City tried its best to come in under par to deliver an excellent event for everyone involved!

The last event to highlight for the month is the Mizuno Hill Volleyball Classic, which returned to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in 2023! It’s a qualifier-style tournament where some of the best players compete for over 950 USAV junior girls’ volleyball teams. The event had almost 90,000 attendees, making it one of the largest single-weekend volleyball tournaments nationwide.

Sports mean many different things to many people, and Smart City Networks is fortunate to bring this much joy with its service. We will continue providing our game-changing technology solutions to sporting events for many years! Happy February, everyone, and here’s to an even better March! To the top!
