The NASCAR Awards returned to the Charlotte Convention Center to celebrate the 2024 season. While Smart City Networks provided hard lines and Wi-Fi connections, the broader setup effort behind the event was a remarkable feat of engineering and logistics. As a long-time partner of the Charlotte Convention Center since 1994, Smart City Networks continues to be impressed by the immense work and dedication required to bring events of this scale to life. This effort deserves recognition across all aspects of event production.

One of the key contributors to the event’s success was Encore’s Senior Rigging Manager, William Taylor, who has been with Encore for 23 years. The setup faced significant challenges, starting with a drastically shortened timeline. Normally, an event of this magnitude would involve three weeks of planning and execution, but this time the team had only 10 days.
Complicating matters further was the requirement for an engineer’s sign-off on the building’s structure, necessary due to the enormous weight of the equipment involved. The setup required a team of 40 professionals, including 12 riggers, working long 12-hour shifts to construct the intricate rigging system.

The sheer scale of the operation was evident in the use of 146 motors (which was every available motor in the Charlotte area), with additional units brought in from Atlanta. This figure was four times the number of points available in the ceiling for motor attachment.
These motors and supporting trusses carried twelve massive video walls and an array of other audiovisual equipment that transformed the venue into a visually stunning space. The final result showcased the power of collaboration, technical skill, and determination that went far beyond any single area of expertise.

Pulling off a high-profile production of this magnitude demands exceptional effort, precision, and teamwork. Smart City Networks is honored to be part of such a dynamic industry where behind-the-scenes work plays a critical role in creating memorable experiences. While the finished product is what most people see, the journey to get there is evidence of countless hours of hard work and collaboration.
