Smart City Networks Expands Wi-Fi 7 at Henry B. González Convention Center

The demand for high-performance connectivity at conventions and large-scale events continues to grow, and venues across the country are investing in the infrastructure needed to support that demand. At the Henry B. González Convention Center (HBGCC) in San Antonio, that investment is continuing with a new phase of network enhancements designed to further strengthen the venue’s next-generation wireless capabilities.

Following the successful deployment of a facility-wide Wi-Fi 7 upgrade in 2025, Smart City Networks and the Henry B. González Convention Center are expanding their investment to enhance wireless coverage, increase network density, and further improve performance throughout the building.

Building on a Major Wi-Fi 7 Deployment

Last year marked a major milestone for the convention center’s technology infrastructure. In preparation for one of the industry’s most bandwidth-intensive events, Smart City Networks completed a comprehensive upgrade across the facility. The project included replacing access points, upgrading the core network infrastructure, and deploying Wi-Fi 7 technology throughout the building.

The result was a network capable of supporting today’s most demanding conventions, trade shows, and large-scale events where thousands of devices are connected simultaneously.

Expanding Coverage with Over 100 New Access Points

Now, Smart City Networks is launching the next phase of improvements, which includes the installation of more than 100 additional Wi-Fi 7 access points placed strategically throughout the convention center.

These upgrades are designed to improve wireless density and coverage across several high-traffic areas of the building, including:

  • River Level
  • Street Level
  • Meeting Level
  • Ballrooms
  • Lila Cockrell Theatre

In many of these locations, the new infrastructure will provide permanent high-density wireless coverage that previously required temporary network augmentation during major events.

Ready for the Next Generation of Events

With these continued enhancements, the Henry B. González Convention Center is further strengthening its position as one of the country’s premier destinations for large-scale conventions and technology-forward events.

As event technology continues to evolve, investments like these ensure the venue remains ready to support everything from global trade shows to high-density digital experiences that rely on fast, reliable connectivity.
