Alex, this is your Spotlight!

Hi Alex! To start, can you walk us through your history with Smart City Networks? We’d love to hear about your journey that led to the Miami Beach Convention Center.
A: My journey began with a strong background in customer service and a passion for event planning and coordination. I initially joined Smart City as a Customer Service Representative I at the Orange County Convention Center. A little over a year later, the opportunity at the Miami Beach Convention Center came up, and it felt like the perfect fit. I took the leap, combining my people skills, organizational strengths, and love for the event industry into this role.
That’s cool! So at your center, what does a typical day look like for you?
A: No two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I love most about this job! Typically, my day involves coordinating with clients, internal departments, and the MBCC team, reviewing event layouts and service requirements, and ensuring logistics are on track. I’m often on the show floor assisting with troubleshooting, answering exhibitor questions, and making sure Smart City’s services are operating smoothly. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on role that’s both challenging and rewarding.
What role does Smart City Networks play in putting together successful events at the Miami Beach Convention Center?
A: Smart City is the backbone of event connectivity here. We provide all the internet and telecommunications services that power everything from large-scale trade shows to more intimate meetings. Reliable, customized tech support is crucial to any event’s success—and we make sure that’s always delivered.
Do you have a favorite or rewarding part of your job? Why?
A: One of my favorite parts of the job is simply the environment. The Miami Beach Convention Center is in such a vibrant location, steps from the beach, great food, shopping, and entertainment. I love starting my mornings with a tostada and coffee from Ocean Deli, just 2 blocks away. It’s a small daily routine that sets a positive tone for the rest of my day.
Do you have a favorite event so far? Why?
A: One of my favorite events has been L.E Miami. The creativity and energy of the show were incredible. They even had an LED tunnel lit with changing neon designs, it was visually stunning and logistically complex. I saw the start and finish of the event being put together and it’s been my favorite so far. Being part of that pushed me to grow and sharpen my coordination skills in new ways.
Can you share a moment where Smart City went above and beyond to support your team or clients?
A: Absolutely. During the setup of one event, a client requested services minutes before the show was starting and they weren’t sure on what they needed, they just knew they needed internet. This request could have caused major disruptions. Our team responded immediately, collaborated on a quick solution, and delivered exactly what was needed without any delay. It was a great example of our commitment to responsiveness and client satisfaction.
What do you think sets the Miami Beach Convention Center apart when it comes to event execution?
A: The MBCC stands out because of its seamless integration of space, staff, and vendor partnerships. The collaboration across departments creates a smooth and elevated experience for both clients and attendees. Plus, the location adds a unique flair, you can literally smell the ocean breeze when you step outside. That kind of energy is hard to replicate.
How would you describe the working relationship between Smart City Networks and the Miami Beach Convention Center?
A: It’s a strong, collaborative partnership built on mutual respect and shared goals. We work hand-in-hand with the MBCC team, often anticipating each other’s needs to ensure flawless event execution. I truly appreciate the welcoming culture here, they embraced me from day one and involve Smart City in every major project. I’m also part of the D.E.I.B. Committee, where we organize monthly celebrations and gatherings for all MBCC employees. It’s a great way to build community.
What’s the collaboration process like between your team when preparing for major events?
A: Preparation starts well in advance. We review floorplans, service orders, timelines, and any unique client needs. There’s a lot of detailed communication to ensure nothing is missed. During the event, we’re constantly in sync, problem solving in real-time. Although we’re a small team, just myself, Enric, and Kevin, we each play a huge role. Our strong communication and teamwork make it all happen.
