Michael Brown - Tampa Convention Center - Smart City Networks

WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO SMART CITY?
An opportunity to work in the IT field without excessive traveling

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?
I provide various types of internet services for clients tuned to their specific needs from a simple Wi-Fi connection to private networks. I troubleshoot and resolve any issues during their event. This includes checking with clients on their satisfaction of services, maintaining infrastructure, updating firmware in switches and access points, and overall keeping security vulnerabilities reduced

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR CONVENTION CENTER AND ABOUT SMART CITY?
There are many things I like about this center and Smart City. This is a great place; the people in the center are excellent to work with.  Smart City is the company I’ve looked for my entire life. I feel very at home here.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEAM CULTURE IN TAMPA?
We are a small team that depends on each other!

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE WORKING WITH SMART CITY AND HOW HAVE YOU STRIVED TO OVERCOME IT?
Being more outgoing. I’m used to being the not-seen IT person prior to working here. This is not an unseen atmosphere. It requires a lot of communication with clients during all phases of their event. I enjoy this now, but it was a challenge at first.

HAVE THERE BEEN ANY INSTANCES YOU CAN THINK OF WHERE YOU HAVE USED ONE OF OUR 10 BUSINESS PRINCIPLES IN THE WORKPLACE?
Integrity, I try to practice that concept consistently. As I read down the list, I believe I have applied most of these principles and seen them applied by my colleagues. This is just one example of the reasons I am comfortable with Smart City.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WHEN YOU FOUND OUT YOU HAD WON EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH IN DECEMBER?
Shocked. I was a little embarrassed, but then my excitement took over. I am so grateful for this opportunity and the people I work with at Smart City.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW HIRES WHO ARE STARTING WITH SMART CITY?
Make the best of your time here. These are great people to work with.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! TO WRAP UP, WHAT IS SOMETHING FUN THAT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I still play a lot of video games. That’s what brought me to the land of computing. I get to play along with my grandson quite often.
