7-year extension includes high-density wireless network
Mark Haley, president of Smart City Networks, the nation’s largest provider of event telecommunications and technology services for the conventions industry, announced today that the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati has extended its contract with the company for an additional seven years. The contract extension includes a variety of services incorporating valuable upgrades Smart City recently completed for the venue. Smart City has served as the facility’s technology provider for over nine years.
“Smart City has installed significant upgrades to the wireless network throughout the Duke Energy Convention Center, positioning the venue for continued success,” Haley said. “This technology has already played a key role in supporting the center’s large-scale events, and Smart City will continue to provide high-quality telecommunications and technology services for this popular facility.”
Under the extended contract, Smart City will offer a full suite of services at the venue, including high-speed Internet access, network cabling, Wi-Fi, telephone services and turnkey data networking services.
Smart City recently installed new equipment throughout the venue, including the addition of nearly 150 Cisco 3702 access points and upgraded core and edge switches. Installed just in time to provide enhanced wireless support for the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest at the venue in July, this new equipment provides visitors with a robust, higher-density wireless network for accessing the Internet at increased speeds.
“At any given moment during a convention, meeting or event, we can easily have thousands of our guests texting, searching or posting on the Internet. Having the superior services of Smart City providing support makes our guests’ experiences fast and flawless,” said Linda Jensen, assistant general manager of the Duke Energy Convention Center.
Offering more than 750,000 square feet of exhibit, meeting and entertainment space, the Duke Energy Convention Center serves as a versatile venue for events ranging from the local to international level. Events hosted annually at the facility include the Kroger All-Associates meeting, College Board, Home School Convention and Cincinnati Insurance.
