Smart City Spotlight: Earvin Claros

At Smart City, one of our core business principles has always been “It’s the People,” and we strive to highlight our wonderful team whenever possible.

Earvin Claros is a Technician at our Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC). He began working with our company in August of 2021 and his exceptional work ethic has always been admirable. Among his impressive achievements, one standout milestone is Earvin’s recent recognition as Smart City’s Employee of the Month. We caught up with Earvin to discuss his experiences and journey with Smart City, as well as his time contributing to the success at LACC. Earvin Claros this is your spotlight!

WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO SMART CITY?
I got presented with the opportunity from a former employee and he started talking to me about the responsibilities and what the position involves.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?
On a show-to-show basis, we prepare our supplies which consist of patch cables, tape, snips, and crimps. Our customer service team provides us with floor plans for exhibitors and we set out and run internet lines according to their plans. We configure each line to their associated VLAN and once our shows are installed, we are on standby for trouble calls.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR CONVENTION CENTER AND ABOUT SMART CITY?
Every employee here at the convention center is welcoming and extremely kind. What I like most about Smart City is the amount of knowledge you gain through every event you work. There is always room to improve in this field of work, and everyone is willing to work with me and teach me.

HAVE THERE BEEN ANY INSTANCES YOU CAN THINK OF WHERE YOU HAVE USED ONE OF OUR 10 BUSINESS PRINCIPLES IN THE WORKPLACE?
Business principle #9 (Think Fast, Move Fast) is one that we implement on a day-to-day basis here at Smart City. Whether we are working directly with exhibitors trying to fix an issue or working with our in-house tenants, the sooner we get people up and running, the happier our customers are.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW HIRES WHO ARE STARTING WITH SMART CITY?
You can never go wrong with asking questions about a particular topic in this field. People here are more than willing to teach others in detail about what and how we do things.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! TO WRAP UP, WHAT IS SOMETHING FUN THAT PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I have traveled to Europe a couple times and my favorite city I have visited has to be Amsterdam.
