Smart City Networks Month in Review: January 2023

January has always been a bit of a refresher. A time for everyone to take a moment and recenter themselves in preparation for the upcoming year. But for Smart City Networks, we always believe in hitting the ground running. That’s why we kicked off the new year with a bit of style and an extra dose of southern flair.

Let’s start our January review with a spotlight on the Lone Star state. Smart City Networks has the privilege of being in four convention centers in Texas. We are partners with Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, and NRG Park and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. Our strong Texas presence shouldn’t be a surprise, as our company started in Houston more than 35 years ago!

With that in mind, we are highlighting a few big events that happened in our partnered convention centers in Texas this month. Let’s start at Kay Bailey Hutchison. The Dallas Safari Club Convention and Sporting Expo is one of Texas’s biggest fundraising events. It took place at the start of January and promoted wildlife conservation through well-regulated hunting and sustainable use. It’s a fantastic event with a wide range of great guest speakers, plenty of merchandise, and camouflage outfits as far as the eye could see (or, I guess, couldn’t see?). At Smart City Networks, we like to think that we always wear camo. We work diligently in the background, constantly working sight unseen to ensure event success.

Now let’s take a quick jog over to the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, which was an essential location for the 2023 Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in mid-January. Those inspiring individuals who like to wake up early and run a whole lot are truly the best of us. We always enjoy this event and love seeing the dedication from everyone participating. Besides being right next to the starting and finish lines, GRB hosted the Houston Marathon Health & Fitness EXPO, which featured over 100 vendors promoting a wide variety of health and fitness items. Way to go team!

All those pictures of people running are making us quite tired! So let’s sit back a second and take a ride over to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. January saw the Washington DC Auto Show rev their energies and transform the center into a car enthusiast’s paradise. Whether you were shopping for a new luxury vehicle or just wanted to check out the latest and greatest automobiles in the world, this was the place to be. Every vehicle was perfectly fine-tuned, and it’s one of the WEWCC’s favorite events of the year! The event was an all-encompassing extravaganza, with its specialty On the Go Hall, its Performance Hall, its EV Pavilion, and of course, its Classic Car Club. There was such beauty and craftsmanship on display! Smart City Networks may not know a lot about fixing up cars, but we do have extensive knowledge of event technology services, and we were excited to help put on the best show possible!

Here’s to a great February, everyone! (And be sure to check out December’s review if you haven’t already!)
